Are you are seen the code of laravel?, no?, and you are not the first one.
Symfony isn't any better and codeigniter is worse and I don't want to talk about wordpress or Magento.
Now, about the libraries (not only frameworks), the average developer just nod and use the libraries without acknowledge the performance because the boss told them to use it. And, down the road, the developer ends the application and it is working but it is slow as hell and the end user complains that the application is slow and the old application works better and it's snappy.
Is the performance important? Hell yes. You don't want to create a intranet system that takes more than 3 seconds to open a simple page, and you don't want to create a public portal that opens in more than 2 seconds (ideal if the time is less than 1 second, and 1.8 seconds for the FCP), but the average developer is clueless about that, he just nods and obey.
