Do Pakistani startups (or any other startups) really need money?.
Let’s say that I am an entrepreneur (in fact, I am) and I want to start a new business:
First, is it viable?.
For example, let’s say that I want to build an electric car (like Musk). Do I have the money?. No. So, I will start collecting money (from VC), and I fail, I obtain nothing. Now, who is guilty of the failure? The VC? Of course not, it’s my fault because I was unable to find funds or because I started something without money. Now, answering the first question is it viable?. No!.
But, I can build a startup with little capital, it could be slow, but it could work, i.e., a viable startup.
Now, let’s say that I am Elon Musk (somebody that earned billions). For somebody like him, collecting money is easy, he has the trust of somebody that could produce wealth. So, Elon Musk could start a business without capital, while most people can’t!.
The VC/Investment route to raise money for a startup is only for companies/founders that have the contacts or the company/founders that have a successful record of business.
Now, Why a VC should invest in a Pakistani startup? If VCs aren’t investing in the Pakistani scene, it is because VCs don’t trust it and trust usually means: startups that generate profit.
So, the VC are not investing in Pakistani scene, it is because the startup scene is doing it a poor job.
