I there:

I am working (and it works) in a system that follows a different route. Instead of generating less code (RAD tools are nothing new)

It is a RAD tool

It does not try to hide the code or allows some limited scripting. It generates the code, all of them. So, for the writer, it’s easy and fast to code but the result is editable (and even with comments and unit test), so it could do further and it is not tied to some specific model, design or architecture.

Why RAD tools are not ideals? It is because of the limit usability.
